Itchita Copita, Melaka Mystica! Halloween 2023 is just around the corner, which means one very important thing — we will be watching Hocus Pocus (and Hocus Pocus 2) on repeat. The beloved cult-classic is near and dear to the hearts of magic and mystery lovers everywhere, and with the right spellbook, you’ll be able to dress up as your favorite Sanderson sister for the scariest night of the year. That’s right — we may be a couple months out from All Hallows’ Eve, but it’s never too early to talk Hocus Pocus costumes.
Hocus Pocus premiered in 1993 and introduced Winnie, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson. The trio of witches (three sisters of...varying...levels of intelligence) are accidentally resurrected by Max Dennison, the new boy in town, on Halloween night. Various hijinks ensue as Max, his little sister Dani, and his new crush Allison attempt to end the witches’ reign so that they can safely live in Salem, Massachusetts without the fear of the Sanderson sisters trying to suck the life out of all of the children in pursuit of eternal youth and beauty (yup, you read that right). Then, 29 years later, Hocus Pocus 2 arrived and (re)resurrected the Sanderson Sisters for another night of spell-casting, potion-brewing, and curse-casting. (And psst, a third movie is officially in the works.)
